Who we are Our alliance Alliance members Butterflies Country: India Established: 1989 Website: butterflieschildrights.org Changing the lives of street and working children Working with street and working children in Delhi since 1989, Butterflies believes in the right of every child to protection, respect, opportunities and participation in his/her own growth and development. Programmes are carried out in 12 contact areas in Delhi at points where there is a high concentration of street/working children such as at bus terminals, markets or railway stations. Butterflies also runs three night shelters in Delhi. Their programmes, which reach out to 1,500 children, include: education, health care, Children’s Development Khazana, Children’s Alternate Media (radio, theatre and newspaper), Childline and a resilience centre, Butterflies School of Food Preparation and Catering, and night outreach. Approach Butterflies is committed to a non-institutional approach and follows the principle of democracy by promoting children’s participation in decision making as part of its programme planning, monitoring and evaluation. By investing in a research, advocacy and training wing, and alliance building, Butterflies supports the mobilisation of civil society and influences policies at all levels. A key feature of Butterflies approach is to to give children a voice in decision-making and help children lobby for their own rights.
