Who: This is Krishna from Nepal.

Whilst working as a tutor for street children, Krishna discovered that some of the local shelters – which were supposed to be safe spaces – were sexually abusing the boys who had come to them for help.

What: Krishna took action, founding the charity Voice of Children to protect street children from experiences like this. Now Voice of Children is part of the global network of Changemaker charities we support.

They have fought extensively for justice, and were the first organisation in Nepal to prosecute for sexual violence affecting boys, which had previously been a hidden issue.

Alongside legal support, Voice of Children rescues, rehabilitates and reintegrates street children with their families and communities; offering an alternative to a dangerous life on the streets.

The charity provides shelter, mental health support, education, and valuable life skills such as employment training.

The Family Difference: Krishna has dedicated his life to ensuring better child protection in Nepal. Now, as part of our global network of Changemakers, he is changing lives overseas, too.

Krishna led the development of our United for Boys Charter, helping to create international awareness of sexual abuse affecting boys, thought to affect 1 in 6 boys worldwide. It has now been signed by over 250 organisations worldwide who have committed to improving their safeguarding procedures.

With Krishna’s first-hand knowledge we are also carrying out vital research into sexual violence affecting boys. Our latest publication provides practical steps for organisations supporting vulnerable boys from harm; and is transforming Krishna’s locally-developed expertise into global change.
